Outer CV Joint Boot Replacement

850V70

How is the outer CV joint boot replaced?

1. Remove the wheel and loosen the drive shaft hub nut. 2. Pry down the lower control arm and disconnect it from the ball joint. 3. Tap the drive shaft out of the hub using a drift pin and hammer. 4. Remove the drive shaft support bearing bracket (2 bolts). 5. Tap through the bearing—the drive shaft comes out of the transmission. 6. Pull the drive shaft out (grip from the middle, don't stretch the joint). 7. Replace the boot and grease. 8. Assemble in reverse order.

Does this guide apply to other models?

Yes—this guide applies to S60, S80, XC70 and XC90 models as well, for both petrol and diesel versions, with manual and automatic transmissions. With manual transmission, be prepared to catch transmission oil.
