Lower Control Arm Replacement
How is the lower control arm replaced?
1. Pry down the lower control arm and disconnect it from the ball joint. 2. Turn the wheel carrier backward. 3. Lift the drive shaft onto the brake caliper out of the way. 4. Remove the front bolts of the lower control arm. 5. Remove the rear through bolt. 6. Pull the control arm out and install the new one. 7. Assembly in reverse order—remember the CV joint seal.
Can just the bushings be replaced?
Yes, but it requires a special tool or a custom-made sleeve to specification. Tools needed: a 36 mm socket (outer diameter max 53 mm) and suitable pipe pieces. Pressing is best done in a screw press, one millimetre at a time.
