Camshaft position verification on 5-cylinder gasoline engines
850S70V70
How is camshaft position checked on 5-cylinder engines?
When installing cams in the upper cover: on the intake side at the driver's side end, the lobe should be above the cover bottom level, and on the exhaust side below. This ensures the lobes are in the correct position when the crankshaft sprocket notch aligns with the oil pump slot.
How to identify the correct position quickly?
Quick guide: on the intake pulley end there should be two bolt holes at the top, and on the exhaust side one. When installing the belt, the section between the cam pulleys may not immediately become tight — adjust the intake and exhaust cam adjustment ranges. All slack belt must fit between the water pump and tensioner.
