850/V70 Strut Boot Replacement

850V70

Can the strut boot be replaced without replacing the strut?

Yes. Often the boots are torn even though the struts are in perfect working order. A new boot stretches surprisingly much.

How is the boot replaced?

1. Clean around the piston. 2. Add plenty of grease around the piston and inside the boot—the bottom end is really tight. 3. Work the new boot into place using plastic tire levers or bicycle tire levers. 4. Wipe away excess grease. 5. Reinstall the strut.
