850/V70 ignition switch base replacement
850V70
Why should you replace the ignition switch base?
A worn ignition switch base causes keys to wobble and feel loose. After replacement, the ignition switch feels solid again. The base from Volvo costs 50–60 €, around 100 € at Motonetin.
How do you replace the ignition switch base?
Tools: T25, T20, and T15 Torx (shafts must be at least 11 cm long for two deep screws), flat-head screwdriver. 1. Disconnect battery terminal. 2. Open 4 Torx screws below the steering column: 2 x T15/T20 (deep, requires long shaft) and 2 x T25. 3. Remove old base. 4. Install new base — check the shape of the center where the connector goes (half a turn off and the connector won't fit). 5. Reassemble in reverse order.
