850/V70 front wheel bearing replacement
Can the 850/V70 front wheel bearing be replaced separately?
The bearing alone cannot be replaced as the hub is an integral part of the bearing assembly. However, hub replacement is straightforward. Remember to include new hub bolts — they sometimes don't come with the spare parts.
What are the hub replacement work steps?
1. Remove wheel. 2. Remove hub nut — have someone press the brake so the rotor doesn't spin. 3. Remove brake caliper and hang it to the side (so the hose doesn't strain). 4. Remove brake rotor. 5. Remove shield plate. 6. Remove lower ball joint. 7. Remove CV joint from hub (do not pull the CV axle out of the car). 8. Open four Torx bolts (E14). 9. Remove hub. 10. Clean and reassemble in reverse order.
What are the correct torque specifications?
Hub Torx bolts: 3 stages — 20 Nm, 45 Nm, 60 degrees. Lower ball joint: 50 Nm. Hub nut (model year –99): 120 Nm + 60 degrees. Hub bolt (model year 99–): 35 Nm + 90 degrees. Brake caliper: 100 Nm. Wheel bolts: 110 Nm.
