What causes 850 air pump noise?
The air pump pumps additional air to the catalytic converter for a couple of minutes after starting to reduce emissions. The noise is usually caused by a worn electric motor bearing.
How is the air pump repaired affordably?
A new pump costs about €400, but replacing the bearing costs only about €6. You need an SKF bearing (price about €6.10) and 3 mm aluminum rivets to support the bearing. The motor plastic cover comes off with 6 clips. Replace the bearing and secure with rivets.
