What are the technical specifications of B18 and B20 poppet engines?
B18/B20 (OHV, 1962–1975, PV, Amazon, 1800, 140, 240): Power: 75–124 hp (DIN) Bore: 84 mm (B18), 89 mm (B20) Stroke: 80 mm Connecting rod length: 145 mm Main bearing diameter: 63.45 mm Piston pin diameter: 22 mm (→73), 24 mm (74→) B18 can be bored for B20 pistons. B20 (74–75) can be bored 92 mm (B21) pistons.
What are the differences between 6-bolt and 8-bolt flywheels?
From 1974 onwards 8-bolt flywheel attachment to the crankshaft (old 6-bolt). 6-bolt has wider main bearing caps and crankshaft neck 0.1 mm thicker — 8-bolt connecting rods do not fit directly on a 6-bolt crankshaft.
What else is special to note with poppet engines?
From 1972: intake valve 42 → 44 mm. Not all B18 blocks (→66) have mounting for the alternator. In tuning applications, 8-bolt connecting rods should be replaced with M-type rods from B19–23 engines.
