Vacuum Pump Disassembly
Where is the vacuum pump located?
The pump is located between the oil dipstick and the oil filter cap — it appears as a small cylinder on the side of the engine.
How is the vacuum pump removed?
1. Disconnect the hose from the cap. 2. Remove two nuts holding the pump in place. The upper one is easily accessible, the lower one is in an awkward spot. Use a 13 mm wrench bent to a suitable angle. 3. Open the lower nut first — if you open the upper one first, the pump will twist and the lower nut will become even tighter. 4. Remove the pin that drives the pump before it falls onto the undertray.
How is the pump disassembled on a workbench?
1. Open the Torx bolts on the cap. Hold the pump vertically — valves and seals will come out from under the cap. 2. Take a photo of the internal layout before disassembly. 3. Remove the large rotating seal, then the valves and seals. 4. Open the circled nut. Hold the pin with a 15 mm socket — use the thinnest-walled socket possible. 5. WARNING: The spring will shoot out forcefully when the nut is opened. Be careful.
