Why does V70 show 'tailgate open' when the tailgate is closed?
Broken wires in the tailgate wiring harness is a very common fault location. Check the wire bundles at the tailgate hinge area. Inside the lock mechanism there can also be an oxidized microswitch — disassembling and cleaning often fixes it.
What other symptoms does tailgate wiring harness failure cause?
Typical symptoms: 'Tailgate open' alert while driving Trunk interior light stays on when locked Alert goes off Tailgate wiper does not work (motor stuck — disassemble and lubricate) Brake lights do not work (check fuse)
