How is the tie rod leak repaired inexpensively?
Required parts (cost about 20 €): Upper seal: 20-30-5 mm Lower seal: 29-43-7 mm Bearing: 25-47-8 mm BNZ sliding bearing (oil bronze): 20×30×20 mm — cut to 7.5 mm width Remember to use the correct power steering fluid (green Febi S6161).
What are the repair work steps?
1. Lock the steering wheel BEFORE removing the steering shaft. 2. Mark the steering gearbox position on the tie rod and steering shaft with paint marker. 3. Remove the pressure line flange and lines — save the O-rings. 4. Remove the mounting bolts on both sides. 5. Pry the flange slightly apart and remove the steering gearbox. 6. Change the seals and bearing. 7. Reassemble in reverse — apply vaseline to the sockets before assembly.
