S60 rear shock absorber replacement guide

S60

How do you replace S60 rear shock absorbers?

1. Lift the car on a lift or with a jack, remove the wheel. 2. At the bottom of the shock absorber, there is one bolt (17 or 19 mm), opens forward. 3. Top: lift the trim from the center of the tailgate, fold down the seats, remove the snap clip from the side trim. 4. Fold the trim toward the tailgate away from the shock absorber. 5. Tear off the top padding — hex socket against it, unscrew the nut with an 18 mm wrench. 6. Go to the bottom and remove the shock absorber (car must be high enough). 7. Install new ones the same way back in.

How long does replacement take?

Both sides combined take about one hour from driving into the garage to driving out. Both sides are similar.
