Aftermarket xenons — wipers stopped working

Yes. Some aftermarket xenon kits cause voltage spikes that damage the windshield wiper control module (wiper motor). This is a known problem in S40/V50 models.

Simply replacing the wiper motor won't help — a new one will fail too because of the xenons. A permanent fix requires a relay kit from the battery with a capacitor. Note: you'll have to live with the fault light after this.
