What causes fault code P2187 (lean mixture) in Volvo 2.4 petrol engine?
Fault code P2187 means 'System too lean at idle' and indicates an air leak on the intake side. The most common cause in S40/V50 2.4 engine is a cracked vent hose.
Where is the vent hose located and how do you check it?
The vent hose runs from the valve cover to the front of the block. You can see it between the intake manifolds. Try to flex the hose with a screwdriver — if it's broken or cracked, it needs replacement.
What is the replacement vent hose part number and price?
Part number: 8670008. Price approximately €27.25. The newer version is entirely rubber without plastic accordion sections, so it lasts much better than the original.
