Sensor Testing and Measurement Instructions
How is the 850/V70 air mass sensor tested with a multimeter?
1. Disconnect the connector from the air mass sensor. 2. Measure the ground wire (pin 1) on the resistance scale. Connect one lead to pin 1, the other to the housing or negative battery terminal. Should read zero (0.1–0.2 Ω is not yet significant). 3. Switch the multimeter to the voltage scale. Turn on ignition. 4. Measure the voltage from the connector pins 1 and 3. Should show the same voltage as the battery terminals.
What are the normal voltage values for the air mass sensor?
The air mass sensor signal voltage should be: Ignition on (engine off): 0.1–0.3 V At idle: approximately 1 V or slightly less During driving: 1–4.5 V
What types of rear light warning devices are there in the 850/V70?
The 850 and V70 (before 2000) have several types of rear light warning devices: Black box: 4 rear lights (>5 W) and 2 brake lights (>21 W), without brake light acknowledgment. White box: 4 rear lights (4.5–7.7 W) and 2 brake lights (19.7–26.5 W), with brake light acknowledgment.
