Headliner replacement (745/945)

The fabric comes down easily if you remove the trim pieces first. The structural backing board is glued on and requires patience to carefully separate without damaging the roof.

Remove the sun visors, grab handles, light fixtures, side wall panels, and door frame trim. On wagons, also remove the rear roof rails and cargo area side panels.

Aftermarket complete kits (fabric + board + trim) are available from specialist suppliers. OEM replacements are rare. Alternatively, have a trim shop custom-make one from quality auto fabric.

Removal takes 3-4 hours. Installation with proper drying time is another 4-5 hours. Professional shops charge 1000-1500 EUR labour plus materials.

Contact cement (spray or brush-on) is the standard. Apply evenly to both the board backing and the roof surface, wait for tackiness, then carefully position and press the fabric.

Automotive-grade fabric with good stretch and washability is essential. Car upholstery vinyl or microsuede work well. Avoid thin or rigid materials that don't conform to roof curves.
