960 AW30-40/AW30-43 fault codes
AW30 series fault codes
If the dashboard orange arrow light is blinking or the transmission goes into "fault mode" (locks into third gear), the transmission control unit (TCM) has recorded a fault code.
How do I read the transmission fault codes?
Use the engine bay diagnostic box (DLC), which is located at the base of the driver's side strut tower. Open the box lid and insert the test lead into hole number 1. Turn the ignition key to position II (engine must not run). Press the button for at least 1 second but less than 3 seconds, then release. Read the LED light flashes. Codes are three digits (e.g. 1-1-2). Press the button again to read the next code until the first code repeats.
Fault code reset
If you have repaired the fault and want to clear the warning light, reset the code: Connect the test lead to hole 1 and turn the ignition key to position II. Press the button for more than 3 seconds and release. The LED will flash rapidly, indicating reset is in progress. Turn the ignition key back to position 0.
Common fault codes
1-1-4 (TCU power problem) – Broken engine position sensor, poor connection or blown vehicle electrical system. 1-3-3 (Input speed sensor) – Transmission input speed sensor is faulty. 2-4-4 (Forward clutch pressure problem) – Pressure build-up or hydraulic error.
What is error code 1-2-3?
1-2-3 (Output speed sensor fault) – The sensor measuring transmission output speed is defective or has a poor connection. Check the wiring and connector at the transmission.
Can I drive with a transmission fault code?
You can limp home at low speed, but avoid aggressive acceleration and high speeds. The transmission is in "safe mode" and may behave unpredictably. Drive directly to a repair shop for diagnosis.
