740 B230F Transmission removal
740 B230F Transmission removal
The B230F automatic transmission in 740/940 models requires dropping the subframe and engine cradle. Support the engine with a hoist before removing transmission bolts.
What tools do I need?
Engine hoist with spreader bar, transmission jack, metric socket set, torque wrench, new gaskets and seals, fresh ATF fluid, and jack stands for safety.
How much oil does it hold?
The BW55 automatic holds approximately 6.5-7.0 liters total. Refill slowly and check the level when running at operating temperature.
What bolts connect the transmission?
Six bolts (usually 6mm or 8mm) secure the transmission to the engine block. Two lower bolts are accessible from underneath. Always replace bolts if they were stretched during removal.
Can I rebuild the transmission myself?
Transmission rebuild requires specialized tools, hydraulic diagrams, and clean room conditions. Leave internal repairs to a qualified transmission shop. Oil service and seal replacement are doable at home.
